How to make Blackberry Liqueur Gin
Add blackberries and sugar to a sealable sterilised jar
Add the gin to the jar of blackberries and sugar
Shake thoroughly to dissolve as much of the sugar as possible
Shake and mix once a day for one week or until sugar is dissolved fully
Leave in a cool, dry, dark place for around four weeks
At the end of that time, the blackberry gin is ready to drink
Strain the gin into sterilised bottles through a muslin cloth or similar
Drink within six months, but can keep for up to 12 months
The period from early August to early September marks the blackberry season in the Midlands of England. During my daily walks with my wife, I observe the brambles flourishing throughout early summer. By mid-summer, the blossoms begin to transform into fruit. In late summer, it appears that within a week, the brambles are adorned with an abundance of succulent blackberries. While it is possible to purchase blackberries all year round in supermarkets, nothing compares to the experience of foraging for them yourself. In recent years, the popularity of flavoured gins has significantly increased, with Blackberry Gin being produced by specialized manufacturers and sold at a premium price in supermarkets. Personally, I believe that homemade and traditional options offer superior flavour and value, so why not consider making your own? It’s quite simple!
